Wisdom Tooth Extraction
Wisdom tooth extraction is a surgical procedure to remove one or more wisdom teeth — the four permanent adult teeth located at the back corners of your mouth on the top and bottom are wisdom teeth and may require extraction in adolescence or early adulthood.

Tooth Extraction
Although permanent teeth were meant to last a lifetime, there is a multitude of reasons why a tooth may need to be extracted. This could be due to a tooth that is badly damaged (from trauma or decay), to be repaired. Or other reasons may include but are not limited to:
Sometimes dentists pull teeth due to orthodontia. The goal of orthodontia is to properly align the teeth, which may not be possible if your teeth are too big for your mouth. If a tooth cannot break through the gum (typically referred to as an erupt tooth) because there is no room in the mouth for it, your dentist or oral surgeon could recommend pulling it
If tooth decay or damage extends to the root -- the center of the tooth containing nerves and blood vessels -- bacteria can enter the root, resulting in the tooth becoming infected. Often this can be corrected through root canal therapy (RCT), but if the infection is so severe that antibiotics or a root canal are unable to cure it, extraction may be needed to prevent the spread of infection to other parts of the mouth, teeth or gums.

Dental Implant
Even though dental practices and technologies have come a long way, there are still going to be times when saving a tooth is just not possible. When such an event occurs our dental specialists at Mid Penn Oral Surgery may suggest a dental implant. Dental Implants are simply replacement teeth that may be used to replace a tooth that may have been removed or one that may be beyond repair. Implants provide a strong foundation for fixed (permanent) or removable replacement teeth that are made to match your natural teeth.
